ANSWER Ear Cartilage Rhinoplasty
Ear cartilage is soft and resilient — an autologous tissue well suited to expressing a natural curve at the nasal tip. ANSWER Plastic Surgery harvests cartilage from an inconspicuous area behind the ear and uses it at the tip, aiming for a tip that feels natural with minimal foreign-body sensation.
When Ear Cartilage Rhinoplasty is needed
If any of the following apply to you, we recommend a specialist consultation.
Low, rounded tip
The tip is low or rounded relative to the bridge, making the nose look blunt
Hesitant about artificial materials
You prefer autologous tissue over an implant at the nasal tip
Preference for a natural look
You want a subtly refined nasal line rather than an obviously surgical result
Thin tip skin
Your skin is thin and you worry firm materials might show through
CUSTOM DESIGN
Tip design matched to facial proportions
The same tip height suits different shapes depending on the angles of the forehead, lips, and chin. ANSWER analyzes frontal and profile proportions together to set the height and angle of the tip, using the soft quality of ear cartilage to create a curve that never looks overdone.
- 1Tip angle designed around the forehead–nose–lip relationship
- 2Cartilage layering adjusted to skin thickness
- 3Balance of frontal tip width and profile height analyzed

ANSWER POINT
A technique that limits donor scarring and deformation
Harvesting follows the crease behind the ear so the scar stays hidden, and the cartilage needed to maintain ear shape is preserved. At the tip, a support structure is built first and the cartilage layered on top, aiming for a tip that resists drooping over time.
- 1Incision behind the ear minimizes donor-site scarring
- 2The cartilage rim that maintains ear shape is preserved
- 3A stable structure layers cartilage over the tip support

ANSWER Ear Cartilage Rhinoplasty: How It's Done
Consultation & Nose Analysis
We assess tip height, skin thickness, and cartilage condition, and discuss the look you want in detail.
Custom Design
Tip height and angle are designed together with the bridge line to suit your overall facial proportions.
Ear Cartilage Harvest
Only the needed amount of cartilage is harvested along the crease behind the ear and closed.
Tip Plasty
A tip support structure is built, then shaped ear cartilage creates a natural curve.
Recovery Care
You visit on the splint and dressing schedule, and the ear donor site is checked as well.
Frequently Asked Questions
QWill harvesting ear cartilage change the shape of my ear?
The rim cartilage that maintains ear shape is preserved and only an inner portion is taken, so there is generally no noticeable change. The donor site is behind the ear, where scarring tends to stay well hidden.
QCan ear cartilage alone raise the bridge?
Ear cartilage is limited in quantity and soft, so it is mainly used at the tip. If bridge height is also needed, we discuss combining it with an implant or other materials during your consultation.
QWon't the cartilage be absorbed over time?
Autologous cartilage can be partially absorbed, so we design the amount with that in mind and build a support structure to limit changes in shape. Regular follow-up visits monitor the condition.
